Three possible podcasts ideas:
1. Should college athletes be paid?
Now this is a popular topic to conduct a podcast on but my take on this topic will be very thorough. We already know most college athletes are on scholarship and we know their merchandise gets sold and we know some of the big time athletes are endorsed by major companies. But should they really be getting paid for this?
People find this topic interesting more than ever because the debate of college athletes getting paid has evolved over the past years especially with the law in California being passed stating that collegiate athletes will be paid starting January 2021. It is also interesting that collegiate athletes are exposed now more than ever with the expansion of social media.
There are many experts to interview for this topic. We can interview one of the many college athletes on campus and we can interview people who work in the athletic department like the athletic director.
2. Sporting venues are starting to become cash-free facilities. Should they be this way?
Over the last year or so, I began to notice that when I would go to a major sporting/concert venue, the concession stands and team stores would have signs on them stating that they are "cash-free". This isn't much of a popular topic right now but it is something that in the next five to ten years will likely be in every major sporting venue across the country. I believe this topic is interesting because it is not something very well known and a topic that will have a large demographic.
with all sorts of new payments methods like apple pay, google pay, paypal, venmo, and contact less credit cards, cash is becoming the old way to pay. Interview possibilities could be sports fans/concert goers and possibly officials from sporting venues.
3. Should marijuana be legal in every U.S. State?
Over the last few years, many U.S. States have passed laws legalizing the use of marijuana. So far, 12 states have legalized the recreational use of marijuana and 19 states have legalized the medical use of marijuana. With the use of recreational marijuana expanded each year and the use of cannabis oils used for treatment and recreational use, should the drug just become legal across the country.
So many people have engage in the used of marijuana whether for treatment or the highly popular recreational use. This topic brings up a great debate because although marijuana has become popular for use, many people believe it is harmful.
For this topic I can reach out to some doctors to get their thoughts on the use of marijuana and their opinion on whether or not it should be legal or not. I can also talk to people in the HPU science department to get their thoughts.
